What is the DEA Intern Program?

Our Teaching Intern Program is designed for passionate dancers who are interested in learning the art of teaching dance! Interns will assist our experienced instructors, receive hands-on training, and develop the skills needed to lead their own classes in the future — all while gaining valuable volunteer hours, professional certifications, and resume-boosting experience.

🎯 Ideal Candidate:

  • Age 12+ (or by recommendation of staff)

  • Must have danced at DEA for at least one season

  • Displays a positive attitude, professionalism, and a love for learning

  • Wants to grow leadership and communication skills

  • Ready to commit to consistent attendance and responsibilities

🧹 Intern Duties Include:

  • Assisting teachers during warm-ups, across-the-floor work, and choreography sessions

  • Helping demonstrate steps and corrections to younger dancers

  • Taking classroom notes on lesson structure and student progress

  • Assisting in explaining steps in a clear and beginner-friendly manner

  • Helping maintain the cleanliness of studios, lobbies, and common spaces

  • Greeting students and parents warmly, acting as a positive representative of DEA

  • Learning basic conflict resolution and positive behavior reinforcement

  • Participating in monthly leadership check-ins

  • Lead Small Groups: Interns showing readiness may lead warm-ups or small group breakout sessions.
